Is Electrolysis right for You?

Electrolysis

There are many options for hair Removal.  How do you know which one is the right one for you? Choose from IPL, Electrolysis & Waxing. Hair Growth happens in three phases Anagen, Catagan and Telogen. These phases of hair growth are important to the successful outcome of the clients treatment they choose.

IPL Laser Hair Removal

IPL laser hair removal is a proven successful method of removing unwanted hair. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser works best on people with dark hair and light skin. IPL Lasers use pulsed light to target, break down and destroy the melanin (dark pigment) in hair. This is why it works only on hair that has pigment (colour) in it.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a permanent method of Hair removal. It is safe and effective for men, women and teenagers. Electrolysis has been around for a long time and is the only permanent method of hair removal recognised by the FDA.

Waxing

Normal reaction of the skin after your electrolysis treatment

Hair growth is varied and personal to the client. Some clients just have a couple of strong hairs on the chin and sides of lip. Some will have a full hair growth on the chin, lip, neck, or sides of face. Some clients will just have a few hairs to be treated and others will have a more serious growth.

Hairs can be light and long but very noticeable when the client applies her makeup. Some Skin will feel warm and tingly. This is because of the heat applied to the skin through the needle to remove the hair. There will be an initial build-up of redness in the skin, but this is temporary, and the skin will return to normal after a couple of hours.

When the skin is in good condition and well cared for the healing will be faster and the treatment less aggressive on the skin. This is because when the skin is hydrated and healthy the current used on the hair can be lowered because of the hydration levels in the skin.

“Why Electrolysis?
One of the benefits of Electrolysis hair removal as compared with IPL laser hair removal is that when you leave the salon the hair has been removed from the follicle and the skin is hair free.”

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers for IPL & Electroylsis

Using a state of the art technology a small amount of electricity is released into the base of the hair follicle destroying the hair cells. This process weakens the hairs ability to regenerate and therefore creates permanent hair removal

This really depends on the clients hair growth. There are many factors that determine the success of the electrolysis treatment. How the client has been removing the hairs, any hormonal influences etc. At the initial consultation appointment we will be able to make a more accurate diagnosis and then be better able to advise on the duration of the electrolysis treatment.

No its not painful but there is a slight heat sensation.

No. your skin will be slightly stimulated for about an hour after your treatment

It is not advisable to apply make up immediately after your electrolysis treatment. It is recommended you wait a couple of hours before applying make up.

Yes. Having a tan does not influence your electrolysis treatment.

Electrolysis is the removal of the hair with a small needle and current and Laser is the application of light that targets the pigment  (melanin) in the hair.

No. The light from the Laser handpiece is attracted to the pigment in the hair. If there is no pigment the light is absorbed by the skin. When the light comes in contact with the pigment it heats the pigment and that heat destroys the hair cells in the follicle.

For facial hair I do not recommend shaving.  However before having your laser treatment the hairs must be short but still visible on the skin. For electrolysis this is not as important. I recommend that for the clients comfort she can cut the hairs between treatments.

1. Electrolysis is a little more complex and does take longer to see a result. This is because each hair is removed individually which makes it a slower treatment to perform.
2. Depending on the extent of the growth a session can last from 15min to 60min.
3. It feels like a little sting.
4. Weekly sessions are recommended for the first couple of sessions.
