IPL Skin Rejuvenation

IPL Laser Treatment

Also Known as Skin Rejuvenation

This light therapy has been used in ancient Greeks & Egyptian cultures for thousands of years. It is only recently that science has been able to explain these healing principles. Applying these healing principles safely and efficiently achieving anti-aging results.

The light doesn’t damage the top layers of skin, so you’ll have fewer side effects than with a laser or dermabrasion.

How Does IPL Work?

IPL Skin Rejuvenation has proven itself to be a powerfully effective treatment to boost aging skin cells. The combination of light and heat speeds up blood circulation which, in turn, promotes collagen and elastin. This results in firmer, smooth, radiant skin.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatment is a very effective treatment for stimulating the skin cells of the dermis called the fibroblasts. These cells are responsible for the production of our collagen. The IPL device delivers wavelengths of light energy to the skin.  This light is attracted to the fluid in our skin cells and converts the fluid into heat. The process accelerates cell metabolism and wound healing resulting in the production of new collagen.

The treatment begins with a double cleanse and an enzymatic exfoliation. This prepares the skin for the IPL skin rejuvenation treatment. A clear gel is applied to the skin. This gel is designed to focus the light onto the skin.  Our highly trained therapist gently applies the smooth, glass surface of the IPL handpiece to the skin. Light is delivered to the skin surface in precise pulses that are virtually pain-free however you may feel a slight sting like being tapped with a rubber band. Once the whole face and neck is treated the gel is removed.

The treatment is completed with the application of Red LED light for 20 minutes.

Red LED light energy is a safe and painless. This form of light can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin where it directly stimulates and regenerates skin cells and tissue repair. It is a fabulous addition to the IPL Skin Rejuvenation Treatment.

Occasionally some redness may be present immediately after the IPL treatment and can last for a maximum of one to two hours. The skin will immediately look refreshed and plump. For longer lasting results a series of 6 sessions is recommended.

  • Recent sunburn
  • Recent sun exposure or sun bed
  • Fake tan on the treatment area
  • Pregnancy
  • History of seizures
  • Severe dermatitis or eczema (within the treatment area)
  • Active infections
  • Roaccutane (oral acne medication) use in the last 6 months
  • Herpes 1or 2 (within the treatment area) If you have a history of herpes close to the area being treated, it is recommended that you take antiviral medication before the treatment.
  • Very dark skin

It is important to protect your skin from direct sun exposure over the series of your treatments and it is highly recommended to use an spf30 broad-spectrum sunblock. Sunbeds and sunbathing are to be avoided. Photorejuvenation treatments can be carried out all year round as long as you are not planning to be in full sun exposure immediately following treatment.

  • Hot showers, hot baths, and saunas are to be avoided for 24 hours. Also, anything that generates heat in the skin should as exercise, cooking over high heat, etc.
  • If the skin is broken or a blister appears keep the area lubricated to prevent crusting or scabbing of tissue and contact the clinic.
  • Cold packs or our Dr. Schwab Seaweed mask may be used to ease temporary discomfort.
  • Prolonged sun exposure is to be avoided for 4 weeks before treatment and then for the following 4 weeks. A total sunblock should be applied. If further treatment is needed a commitment to stay out of the sun is necessary. If there is direct sun exposure there are certain complications that may occur that should be discussed fully.
  • A good skincare regime as discussed with your therapist is necessary between treatments this will also greater the effects of the treatment.

Even after just one treatment, your skin will look much plumper. Most people need a course of 4-6 about 2 weeks apart. You can see some improvement with each treatment, but it’s common for your response to be slightly different from each treatment. The more sun damage or redness you have, the more likely you are to need a full six treatments. Some cases of severe redness or brown spots require more than 5 treatments. Expect to see gradual clearing over time.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation delivers light to the skin which activates and produces a deep response in the collagen-producing layers of the skin.
